MARBLE CAKE RECIPE

Ingredients:

2 1/4 cups  flour, sifted

1 1/2 cups  sugar

3 1/2 teaspoon  baking powder

1 teaspoon  salt

1/2 cup  shortening

2/3 cup  milk

1 teaspoon  vanilla extract

1/3 cup  milk

1 oz unsweetened chocolate

1/4 teaspoon  baking soda

2 Tablespoons  water

4 egg whites,unbeaten

 

Chocolate frosting Ingredients:

1/2 cup  shortening

2 cups  powdered sugar

1/2 cup  cocoa (up to 2/3 cup)

1 teaspoon  vanilla

milk

 

Marble Cake Recipe Directions:

 

Sift together in a bowl dry ingredients.  Add 1/2 cup shortening,

2/3 cup milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.  Beat 2 minutes.  Add

another 1/3 cup milk and 4 egg whites, unbeaten.  Beat 2 more minutes.

To 1/3 of the batter add 1 square unsweetened chocolate (1 ounce)

melted, mixed with 1/4 teaspoon baking soda and 2 tablespoons warm

water.  Pour alternately in a greased 9″ square pan.  Bake at 350 for

35 to 45 minutes.  Frost with chocolate frosting.

 

Chocolate Frosting Preparation:

 

Beat shortening and powdered sugar together.  Add

cocoa.  Add milk by tablespoon till thick enough to spread.  Add 1

teaspoon vanilla.

Ingredients:

1 cup All-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons Cream of tartar

1/4 cup Cocoa

1/2 teaspoon Salt

1 1/2 cup Sugar

1 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla

10 Egg whites

 

Chocolate Angel Food Cake Recipe Directions:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

In medium bowl, sift flour. Sift flour again twice with cocoa and 1/2 cup sugar. Set aside. In large bowl, beat egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add remaining sugar, 2 Tbsp at a time until stiff peaks form. Fold in flour mixture and vanilla.

Pour into ungreased tube pan. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes. Invert pan for about 1 hour or until the cake is cool.

Sprinkle powdered sugar and cocoa powder on the cake for decoration if you like.

Ingredients:

4 cups  Flour

2    Eggs

1 teaspoon  Baking soda

1 1/2 cup  Applesauce

1/4 teaspoon  Salt

1 teaspoon  Vanilla

1 teaspoon  Cinnamon

1 lb Raisins, white

1/4 teaspoon  Cloves, ground

8 oz Gumdrops (no black ones; 2 standard bags)

1/4 t  Nutmeg

12 oz Coconut, shredded – 1 standard bag

1 cup  Butter

Walnuts, to taste

2 cups  Sugar

 

Gumdrop Cake Recipe Directions:

 

Cream together butter, sugar and eggs in one bowl.  In another bowl, mix

the dry ingredients together (flour, salt, soda and seasonings). Add the

flour mixture to the butter mixture half at a time, alternating it with the

applesauce.  Pick all the black gumdrops out and eat them or throw them

away. Add the nuts, raisins, coconut and remaining gumdrops; blend well.

 

Line 2 large loaf pans or 5 small loaf pans with wax paper! (Grease won’t

work).  Fill pans about 2/3 full.  Bake at 300 degrees F. for about 2

hours. Let cool for about 15 minutes before you try to remove the loaves

from the pan. They should just fall right out when turned upside down, then

peel off the wax paper.

This cake also makes an excellent christmas cake. You can serve it plain or

decorate it to reflect the Christmas theme.
